Mojave ( pronunciation : [ məhɑːviː ] Listen ? / I ), fully macOS Mojave 10.14 , is the fifteenth major release of macOS , the desktop operating system from Apple . It was presented on June 4, 2018 at the Worldwide Developers Conference and released on September 24, 2018 after a beta phase of around four months . This major version was named after the Mojave Desert , which is partially located in California . Audio file / audio sample

The successor macOS Catalina has been available since October 2019.

System requirements

While the previous version High Sierra supported the same devices as its predecessor Sierra , there are limitations with Mojave. macOS 10.14 runs on the following devices:

  • MacBook : from early 2015
  • MacBook Pro : from mid-2012
  • MacBook Air : from mid-2012
  • Mac mini : from late 2012
  • iMac : from the end of 2012
  • iMac Pro : 2017 or newer
  • Mac Pro : from the end of 2013, plus mid-2010 and mid-2012 with metal-compatible graphics processor . Apple expressly recommends the two graphics card models MSI Radeon RX 560 and Sapphire Radeon PULSE RX 580.

Innovations

At the developer conference , Apple announced the innovations Dark Mode , Create ML (a new technology for machine learning ) and the discontinuation of support for OpenGL and OpenCL in favor of Metal . OpenGL and OpenCL will still be available, but no further developments will be added in the future. The Apple File System introduced with macOS High Sierra should also run on Fusion Drive machines . The Finder , the preview app and the system-wide QuickLook preview function have new editing options for files.

New functions for security and privacy are explicit releases for access to location, contact , photo , calendar and reminder data , as well as restriction of website fingerprinting through social media buttons and comment widgets, and only the transmission of simplified system information through the Browser Safari .

Other innovations include desktop stacks for quickly tidying up the desk, a comprehensively redesigned Mac App Store , a Finder gallery view with metadata display, Facetime group discussions with up to 32 participants, tethering with the iPhone camera (recorded images can be saved directly to the are taken active program) and Home app to control HomeKit - hardware .

The integration of the access data from social networks such as Facebook or Twitter into the system settings introduced with OS X Mountain Lion is no longer necessary.
