Planet Earth is the name of a collector's coin issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance on April 14, 2016 .

The coin has a face value of € 5 euros and is, however, limited to the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany , as legal tender . It is the first official coin made of metal and plastic components. Another special feature is that each mint produces the blue ring in a different color. The mints are located in Berlin ( Mintmark : A), Munich (Mintmark: D), Stuttgart (Mintmark: F), Karlsruhe (Mintmark: G) and Hamburg (Mintmark: J).

Technical characteristics, design

The coin has a diameter of 27.25 mm, a weight of 9 g and is produced in the minting qualities of stamp and mirror finish. The design of the coin comes from Stefan Klein from Iserlohn, the eagle motif from Alina Hoyer from Berlin.

The universe is depicted on the outer ring ; the blue inner ring made of plastic is supposed to represent the earth's atmosphere . Below that, the continents are shown by densely populated points. The initials KN are embossed on the picture side ; they represent the designer Stefan Klein and the winner of the competition to design a new collector's coin, Olaf Neumann from Iserlohn. The letter of the mint is on the value side. The marginal writing reads BLUE PLANET EARTH .

Edition, issue price

The total circulation of the coin, which was first issued on April 14, 2016, is 2.25 million copies, 250,000 of which are collector's quality mirror finish . The coin with a face value of 5 euros can be acquired in unmarked gloss. With a mirror finish, the coin has an issue price of 15.55 euros.
