Planningtorock (also Jam Rostron , born Janine Rostron in 1971 in Bolton , Greater Manchester ) is of English nationality and is a musician , music producer and performance and multimedia artist . Planningtorock makes use of sound alienations as well as masks and light installations in order to express "sexuality in the flow" (compare gender fluid gender identity ). As a personal pronoun , Planningtorock prefers the German gender-neutral new form “sier” (a contraction of “she” and “he”).

Life

Planningtorock grew up in Bolton in the north of England (near Manchester ), learned the violin and began producing his own music at the age of 16. At the Art School Art Academy Sheffield studied Planningtorock Video Art ( video art ), came in 2002 after Berlin and lives and works there.

Creative work

In Planningtorock's musical and performance work, feminist themes such as gender roles , misogyny ( misogyny ) and patriarchy are in the foreground.

In 2006 the debut album Have It All was released on Chicks on Speed ​​Records . In 2010 Planningtorock realized the opera Tomorrow, In a Year for the Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma together with Mount Sims and the band The Knife . A sound carrier was released on Mute Records . In the same year Planningtorock went on tour with LCD Soundsystem and got a contract with its record label DFA Records .

The central element of the electronic effect production is the alienation of the singing voice in order to make it appear gender ambiguous; Planningtorock has been working on this mechanical union of male and female characteristics ( androgyny ) since 2014.
