The peaked cap , shield cap or plate cap (in Austria) is a form of headgear . It is a hat that always has an umbrella in the imaginary quarter circle of the round hat. It emerged from the shako , a military headgear from the 19th century, by gradually reducing the size of the hat tower.

The visor of the visor cap is primarily used to protect the eyes from sunlight, but also the face from rain. The peaked cap differs from a hat , which usually shades other regions of the head, such as the ears and neck.
