Pollux , Italian Polluce , is a peak in the Valais Alps in the canton of Valais on the border with the Italian province of Aosta . With a height of 4092  m above sea level. M. he is the lower of the two twins and lies northwest of the Castor . The twins Castor and Pollux lie between the Breithorn massif and the Liskamm . They are separated by the Zwillingsjoch (Italian Passo di Verra , 3845  m above sea level ).

The name is reminiscent of one of the dioscuri in Greek mythology , Pollux .

The first ascent of the Pollux took place on August 1, 1864 , Switzerland's national holiday , by Jules Jacot with guides Josef-Marie Perren and Peter Taugwalder (father).

The ascent to the Pollux summit is not particularly long (1–1.5 hours) from the Zwillingsjoch, but it is quite demanding (several climbing points II).
