POLREGIO sp. z oo (formerly PKP Przewozy Regionalne , PKP Przewozy Regionalne ) is a railway company in Poland , which is responsible for local and interregional passenger transport. The company was created by spinning off a subsidiary of the Polish State Railways (PKP).
Train types
- Region (R)
- local passenger train, 2nd class only, stops at all stations
- InterRegio (IR)
- cheap inter-regional express train, only 2nd class, only stops at medium-sized and larger stations; since September 1, 2015 only on the routes Łódź - Warszawa (Lodz – Warsaw) and Małkinia / Ełk - Hrodna ( BY ).
Shareholding
Until December 22, 2008, the company was a wholly-owned subsidiary of the PKP Group.
2008-2015
As part of a reform, the Polish tax authorities took over all ownership shares on December 22nd, 2008 and transferred them to the 16 voivodships by decree . As of December 8, 2009, the suffix PKP from the former company name PKP Przewozy Regionalne was also dropped. The Przewozy Regionalne offered cost-effective competition to the TLK trains of the PKP Intercity with their self-operated InterRegio trains . However, the company largely withdrew from this business area in September 2015 and only offers IR connections between Warsaw and Łódź , which are financed by the Marshal of the Łódź Voivodeship .
Since 2015
On September 30, 2015, the state treasury took over 50% and one share in the form of the joint stock company ARP . In return, PR received PLN 770 million from the public purse ; of which 600 million for debt repayment (mainly to the infrastructure operator PKP PLK ) and the rest for restructuring and investments in the vehicle fleet.
After a “rebranding”, the transport company now operates under the “Polregio” brand.
