Original speaker

production

Polygon was made by Anatoly Petrov at the Soyuz multi-film animation studio . The animators were Vladimir Sarubin and Anatoly Petrov, the cameraman was Mikhail Drujan.

In the opening credits, the music Tanha Shodam (1972) by the Afghan composer Achmad Sachir is used in an arrangement by Paul Mauriat . In the West this song is best known under the title El Bimbo .

Animation technique

An unusual animation technique called photographica is used in film. Two layers of celluloid are created for each character, which are colored differently. The second layer is photographed out of focus in order to create a three-dimensional effect. With this technique it is possible to dynamically generate and adjust perspectives for each scene in order to make them look particularly realistic, without the use of CGI techniques, which were not yet available in 1977.

The characters are similar to famous actors and stars of the time. a .: Ringo Starr , Jean Gabin , Paul Newman , Yul Brynner and Mel Ferrer (as scientists).
