Poncie Ponce

Poncie Ponce (* 10. April 1933 as Ponciano Hernandez on Maui , Hawaii ; † 19th July 2013 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor and singer .

Life

Ponce grew up in Hawaii and was drafted into the United States Army in the early 1950s . In 1953 he was stationed as a corporal in Germany during the Korean War . Upon his return to the United States, Ponce moved to Los Angeles, where he initially performed in a nightclub. There he was discovered in 1958 by television producer William T. Orr and received a contract with Warner Brothers . He got his stage name from Jack L. Warner . Between 1959 and 1963 he played the role of taxi driver Kim in the series Hawaiian Eye . In addition to 124 episodes of the series, he was also seen as Kim in four episodes of the series 77 Sunset Strip, also produced by Orr . In seven episodes of Hawaiian Eye , Ponce also came to vocal appearances.

In 1962 his album Poncie Ponce Sings appeared on the major label Warner Music Group , but without any major commercial success. After the Hawaiian Eye ended , Ponce starred in two more feature films; In 1968 he acted alongside Elvis Presley in Speedway and in 1977 he was seen alongside Gene Wilder in the comedy The Greatest Lover in the World .

Ponce had been married since 1956 and had three daughters.
