Porrau is a locality and cadastral municipality of the market town of Göllersdorf in Lower Austria .
geography
The place is located southeast of Hollabrunn in the Ernstbrunn Forest . It is located on the L27 state road and can only be reached from Göllersdorf via side roads.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document around 1156 as Parowi , when the Reichenbach monastery ceded control of the place to the Göttweig monastery by way of exchange . The two localities of Oberporrau and Unterporrau originally existed here, with the latter developing into today's Porrau. Oberporrau lies a little above and was devastated.
The sex of the Porrauer , whose first tangible representative is a Hugo de Parawe , is mentioned for the first time in 1187. The most important representative of this family is Wolfger von Porrau (1200–1252), who held high offices at the court of Duke Friedrich II . After the Porrauers died out at the end of the 15th century, the place came under the rule of Göllersdorf and thus became the property of Counts Puchheim and Schönborn.
After the reforms of 1848/1849 Porrau was a village in the Bergau municipality and was assigned to the Ober-Hollabrunn district until 1868 and then to the Hollabrunn district . In 1919 Porrau was constituted as an independent municipality. In 1972 it was incorporated into the large community of Göllersdorf.
Porrau Castle
Around 1720 the Counts Schönborn built Porrau Castle , a one- story complex around a courtyard, as a hunting lodge. Behind it was a pheasant farm. The complex, in need of renovation, is now used as a forester's house.
