The Post Kahn is since the end of the 19th century, at the latest in 1897, a one-time mailing middle of Deutsche Post (or their predecessors) in the Spreewald community Lehde . Letters are delivered here by boat from spring to autumn (April to October). In the winter months, deliveries are made to letter boxes that the residents have set up on the land side, by post bicycle or car.

The current ship's barge is made of aluminum and is painted in the post colors yellow and black. It is also the smallest Postbank branch, and a number of other postal products (including postage stamps) can also be purchased from the deliverer. In addition to delivering letters and parcels, the deliverer is also responsible for emptying the post boxes.

Since motorized barges are forbidden in the Spreewald, locomotion is carried out with the oar rod (called pack ). On the eight-kilometer route, the delivery person currently drives to 80 households, 20 summer apartments and three mostly full letterboxes from excursion restaurants on working days.

In 2005, Deutsche Post honored this exceptional delivery option with the issue of a special postage stamp from the Post: Letter delivery in Germany series . The stamp to the value of 55 euro cents was published on August 11, 2005. The design comes from Professor Dieter Ziegenfeuter from Dortmund.

For the opening of the Spreewaldkahn delivery , there is a special cancellation of the post.

As early as 1991, on the occasion of the Postage Stamp Day , there was an issue with a historical image.
