Povia
Giuseppe Povia (born November 19, 1972 in Milan ), stage name Povia , is an Italian cantautore (songwriter).
Live and act
At 14, Povia taught himself to play the guitar , and later began composing. In 1999 he took part in the Accademia di Sanremo , where he met the songwriter Giancarlo Bigazzi and his future manager Angelo Carrara. In 2003 he won a song competition in Recanati with Mia sorella . On this occasion he introduced the song I bambini fanno “ooh…” . He actually wanted to present this at the Sanremo Festival 2005 , which was no longer possible due to the previous public performance. However, it was used in a charity initiative to build a hospital in Darfur , which is why Povia in Sanremo was able to perform out of competition. The song developed into a summer hit and was at the top of the Italian single charts for a total of 20 weeks. It was included on Povia's debut album Evviva i pazzi… che hanno capito cos'è l'amore .
On July 2, 2005, Povia was one of the participating artists at the Live 8 concert in Rome. With Vorrei avere il becco he finally entered the 2006 Sanremo Festival and won it. Afterwards his second album I bambini fanno “ooh…” La storia continua… was released . After the album La storia continua… la tavola rotonda (2007), Povia began a collaboration with Francesco Baccini . Together they applied for the Sanremo Festival 2008 , but were not accepted. The joint album was titled Uniti .
Finally, Povia returned to the Sanremo Festival in 2009 with the song Luca era gay ("Luca was gay ") and came in second behind Marco Carta . The announcement of the song led to violent protests, the spokesman of which was Arcigay . The song tells the story of an ex-gay . Povia had already told Panorama magazine in July 2005: “Being gay is not innate. You become one because of how you deal with things, because of what you learn from an early age. […] I know what I'm talking about. I had a gay phase myself. […] It was when I was 18 years old. It took seven months and then I got over it. Two of my friends also converted who thought they were gay and now they are married and have children. "
After Sanremo 2009 Povia released the album Centravanti di mestiere distributed by Warner . In the same year the children's album Non basta un sorriso was released . At the Sanremo Festival 2010 , Povia presented the song La verità , which was dedicated to Eluana Englaro . He then released the album Scacco matto . In the following years other albums appeared irregularly.
