Precision Graphics Markup Language

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Precision Graphics Markup Language ( PGML ) is an XML -based markup language (markup language) for two-dimensional vector graphics . PGML was proposed as the standard by Adobe , IBM , Netscape , and Sun at the W3C in April 1998 , but was unsuccessful.

The proposal for an XML-based vector graphics format competing with PGML was Vector Markup Language (VML). VML was proposed by Autodesk , HP , Macromedia , Microsoft , and Visio Corporation to the W3C in May 1998 .

PGML and VML were later combined and improved to create Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), which was adopted as a standard by the W3C.
