Ruth Geede with the Prussian shield

The Prussian shield is the East Prussian Landsmannschaft's highest award .

Foundation, endowment

At the suggestion of Erich Grimoni , the award was donated in March 1957. It is not awarded every year and may only be worn by a maximum of 15 living people. Currently (December 2018) there is only one living recipient of the award.

The Prussian shield is always awarded on February 25th - in memory of the day on which the Allied Control Council decreed the dissolution of the Free State of Prussia in 1947 . The Prussian shield is awarded to personalities who have rendered outstanding services to East Prussia and the preservation of its heritage.

Description and way of carrying

The Prussian shield consists of a coat of arms-shaped enamel shield with a stylized floating Frederickian eagle . Men wear the Prussian shield on the left side of their chest, women wear a necklace.
