Ruth Geede
Ruth Geede - actually Ruth Vollmer-Rupprecht (born February 13, 1916 in Königsberg ; † April 17, 2018 in Hamburg ) was a writer and journalist by her birth and author name .
Life
After completing school, Geedes began working for the Reich broadcaster in Königsberg . There she worked as a freelancer and campaigned for the preservation of the East Prussian dialect .
After fleeing at the end of World War II , she started working again as a volunteer at the Lüneburger Landeszeitung , where she was employed until 1995. In addition, Ruth Geede ran her own press services and, since 1950, has been supplying the weekly Ostpreußenblatt (now the Preussische Allgemeine Zeitung ) with articles from East Prussia. There she wrote a column with the East Prussian family , with the help of which the war displaced persons were repeatedly brought together.
Services
Ruth Geede published her first texts at the age of 17. It was shaped by encounters with the East Prussian writer Agnes Miegel . At the age of 19, her first book with Low German stories was published.
Her work as a writer also included radio plays and stage plays, some of which were performed in the Ohnsorg Theater in Hamburg .
Honors
- In 1985 Ruth Geede was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon ,
- In 1991 she received the culture award of the East Prussian Landsmannschaft ,
- 2000 the Prussian shield , the highest award of the country team and
- 2015 the Königsberg Citizen Medal
