Hugo Wellems (born August 4, 1912 in Bonn ; † March 23, 1995 in Cologne ) was a publicist , journalist , book author and National Socialist functionary.

Life

Wellems joined the NSDAP in 1930 at the age of 18 . He was HJ-Bannführer , member of the Condor Legion in the Spanish Civil War and later became a consultant in the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda and head of the Propaganda Office in Kauen . During the time of National Socialism he published various system-compliant books such as 1936 The Last Hundred Days. Diary of the Saar fight of the Hitler Youth and 1939 Der Führer in der Westmark . In 1943 his humorous book Christoph Pankratius Mieserich was published among the blessed .

After World War II, Wellems' writings became The Last 100 Days. A diary of the struggle of the Hitler Youth in the Saar , odyssey through Germany (both in publishing for social ethics and art care, Berlin 1938) and of him with Heinrich Foerster wrote The leader in the Saar-Palatinate. A picture report (Saarbrücker Druckerei und Verlag, Saarbrücken 1939) in the Soviet occupation zone was put on the list of literature to be sorted out.

After 1945 Wellems worked for US secret authorities for five years, after which he became a member of the German Party (DP). In 1959 he became editor-in-chief of the DP party newspaper Deutsches Wort , and later of OstWestKurier . In 1962 he was the founder and later chairman of the State and Economic Policy Society (SWG).

Wellems was a critic of Willy Brandt's Ostpolitik and had a long-standing friendship with Franz Joseph Strauss . According to Der Spiegel, Wellems directed anonymous mailbox campaigns against Brandt and Walter Scheel via the SWG in the 1972 federal election campaign with the help of donations from the economy in the millions . As early as 1960, according to Der Spiegel, Wellems launched a wave of defamation against Brandt in his publication "Das deutsche Wort", revealing that the then candidate for chancellor was illegitimate.

He became editor-in-chief of the SWG organ Deutschland Journal and from 1967 to 1995 editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Das Ostpreußenblatt . From 1977 to 1993 he was also editor-in-chief of the Pommernzeitung .

In 1971 Wellems became "propaganda consultant" for the German Union under Siegfried Zoglmann .

In 1981 he was a co-founder of the Bismarck League and deputy chairman until his death. From 1980 to 1991 he was Prior of the Ordo Militiae Crucis Templi Templar Order, German Priorat eV , a German organization that appeals to the Templar Order.

Hugo Wellems has published various books, most of which were published by the Staats- und Wirtschaftspolitische Gesellschaft eV or by the Arndt-Verlag , which was rated by the protection of the constitution as right-wing extremist . Often these books were summaries of articles he had previously written for one of the numerous newspapers and magazines. One of the best-known is the work From Versailles to Potsdam (with new editions under the title The Century of Lies ), which consists of a collection of quotations from leading politicians, but which have been taken out of context and mostly printed without a source.
