Joachim von Braun (lawyer)

Joachim Freiherr von Braun (born September 1, 1905 in Gerdauen , East Prussia , † June 8, 1974 in Göttingen ) was a German administrative lawyer .

Life

Braun's parents were Julius von Braun (district administrator) and his wife Clara née. von Below in the Gerdauen district . He was a cousin of Wernher von Braun and Sigismund von Braun .

After graduating from the Collegium Fridericianum , v. Braun from 1924 three semesters of law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1924 he became active in the Corps Borussia Bonn . In 1925 he interrupted his studies to serve in Allenstein with the 2nd (Prussian) cavalry regiment . In autumn 1925, Braun continued his studies at the Albertus University in Königsberg .

After the legal clerkship and the assessor examination in the Prussian Ministry of Justice in Berlin , he joined the administrative service of the Free State of Prussia at the Landstelle Stettin der Osthilfe (German Reich) in early 1932 . In May 1939 he was called up as a reserve officer for the army (Wehrmacht) . During the attack on Poland he was a regimental adjutant in the Pomeranian Infantry Regiment 409 (Wehrmacht) in the 122nd Infantry Division (Wehrmacht) . In 1940 he took part in the campaign in the West and from 1941 in the German-Soviet War . In 1943 he was transferred to the organizational department of the Army High Command. At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the United States , from which he was released in August 1946.

After the war, v. Braun on the continuation of the civil service career. He dedicated himself to work for the lost eastern territories of the German Reich and the expellees . With Wolf von Wrangel and Friedrich Hoffmann , he founded the Göttingen working group , for which he was a member of the board and managing director for many years. From 1972 to 1974 he was also the spokesman (federal chairman) of the East Prussian Landsmannschaft .
