Prey for Rock & Roll is an American musical drama released in 2003 . Directed by Alex Steyermark , the screenplay was written by Cheri Lovedog and Robin Whitehouse .

action

The action begins at the end of the 1980s. Jacki and her friends found the music group Clam Dandy , which performs in clubs in Los Angeles . Years of searching for a producer who would publish a record by the group remained unsuccessful.

After ten years the women find a producer. However, Jacki is approaching the age of 40 and doubts whether she should continue pursuing a career as a musician. She announces that she will leave the group if the record doesn't go out.

Tracy becomes a drug addict. Sally, who has a lesbian relationship with Faith, wants her recently released brother Animal to move in with women.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film presented “life plans and escapist scenarios” and showed “the four protagonists on their personal search for ways out of their life crises” . His author is “familiar with the profession” , which guarantees “insights into show business” and “an examination of the subculture” . However, Prey for Rock & Roll offers "musically [...] not too much" .

Ronnie Scheib wrote in Variety magazine on June 10, 2003 that the film looked authentic from beginning to end. He praised the "brilliant" ( "dynamite" ) performances of the actors, especially the "stunning" portrayal of Gina Gershon.

The world premiere took place on January 20, 2003 at the Sundance Film Festival , which was followed by the Tribeca Film Festival , the Toronto International Film Festival and numerous other film festivals. It grossed around 58,000 US dollars in cinemas in the United States .
