Preza ( Albanian  also  Prezë ) is a village in Albania, 17 kilometers as the crow flies northwest of downtown Tirana . Today the place belongs to the Bashkia Vora , which is six kilometers away in the south. Until 2015, Preza was an independent municipality with 4727 inhabitants in 2011.

The villages of Ahmetaq, Palaq, Fushë-Preza, Gjeç-Kodër, Ndërmjetës and Breg-Shkoza also belong to the former municipality and today's administrative unit (njësia administrative) .

The village of Preza stretches for several kilometers along the ridge up to 260  m above sea level. A. high hill. The ridge of hills running in north-south direction drops steeply on both sides: In the east, the Tirana plain with the airport is around 200 meters below . To the west is hilly terrain, the valley floors of which are slightly higher than the plain. Parlaq is located on a hill west of Preza. Fushë-Preza and Ahmetaq are at the foot of the hill in the plain in the east, Gjeç further south, Breg-Shkoza further north on the SH 52 .

Preza is accessed by a road that branches off the SH 52 around three kilometers from Vora at the southern end of the hill. A simple, not continuously paved road leads in the north to Budull, a northern neighboring village of Ahmetaq. In Fushë-Preza, the SH 60 branches off from the SH 52 to the airport. The Albanian railway Hekurudha Shqiptare passes Ahmetaq and Fushë-Preza, but had no stops there.

history

The first fortification on the Preza hill dates from the 2nd to 3rd centuries BC. The Albanian Catholic cleric Marin Barleti (1450–1512 / 13) mentions Preza or Little Tirana ( Albanian  Tirana e Vogël ) in his Skanderbeg biography Historia de vita et gestis Scanderbegi Epirotarum principis from 1510 and calls it a small town of the Parthins , of an Illyrian tribe . This city of the Parthines was also mentioned by Gaius Julius Caesar in his De bello civili as the camp of Pompey .

The Prezë Castle was for the region mainly in the Middle Ages is of strategic importance as it the road from Durres to Kruja controlled in the plain of Tirana and the signal point for the exchange of visual messages between the castle of Kruja , the castle of Petrela and Durres served.

In 1959 the agricultural land around Preza was collectivized . The center of the community was temporarily located in Ahmetaq.
