Primavera Festival Vienna

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Primavera Festival Vienna is an Austrian human rights festival that takes place annually from March to May in Vienna . It was founded in 2013 by León de Castillo with the support of the then President of the National Council Barbara Prammer and the former State Secretary Hans Winkler in the field of classical music to bring works by ostracized and persecuted composers to the stage.

history

In the first edition, De Castillo installed three days of remembrance as important pillars of the festival: International Women's Day, the Day of the Mexican Protest against the “Anschluss” of Austria and the International Day against Racism . In 2013 and 2014, events between classical music and politics were held on these days. The musicologist Gerold Gruber became one of the most important partners as head of the exil.arte research center. The festival stands up for openness and tolerance and against racism and discrimination and mediates between “culture, diversity and integration”.

Mexico's protest against the “Anschluss” and exile in Mexico

One focus of the festival is on Mexico's written protest on March 19, 1938 in the League of Nations . At that time Mexico was the only country in the world to protest against the annexation of Austria to the German Reich by written note through an initiative of the diplomat Isidro Fabelas . Another focus is on artists who found refuge in Mexico between 1938 and 1946, and on Consul General Gilberto Bosques who saved the lives of many people with a Mexico visa.
