Primer 55 is an American nu and rap metal band from Memphis , Tennessee , that was formed in 1997, disbanded in 2003 and has been active again since 2007.

history

The band was formed in 1997 by guitarist Bob "Bobby" Burns Jr. Singer Jason "J-Sin" Luttrell, bassist Mike "Jr." Christopher and drummer Josh McLane joined as additional members. On his own label Propellant Transmissions, the first self-titled album was released in 1999. This enabled the group to go on tour with bands like Staind , Slipknot and Sevendust . Thereupon Island Records became aware of the group, about which the album Introducing to Mayhem , produced by Eddie Wohl , appeared in January 2000 . On the album were Incubus - DJ Chris Kilmore, the (hed) pe singer Jared "MCUD" Gomes, and the Relative Ash to hear singer Mark Harrington as a guest musician. In the same year the band played at the Ozzfest . In 2001, drummer Josh McLane left the band and was replaced by John Kamoosi, who in turn was replaced by ex- dope drummer Preston Nash. In the same year the next album (The) New Release was released , which reached number 102 on the Billboard 200 . In early 2002 there was another line-up change with the departure of bassist Kobie Jackson, for whom Joshua Toomey came to the band. The band then went on tour through North America in November and December 2002 with Skinlab , Dope and Society 1 . Drummer Nash also helped out at Society 1, as their drummer could not play due to an injury. In 2002 the band also played at the Gathering of the Juggalos . At the beginning of January 2003 the band split up. Burns joined Soulfly briefly while the other members devoted themselves to other projects. In 2007 the band came together again and consisted of bassist Joshua Toomey, guitarists Bobby Burns and Billy Gray, singer Heath Joyce and drummer Frank Fontsere. In the same year, the next album Family for Life was released via Crash Music , followed by A Big Fuck You in 2013 via Rock Science Records . The band currently consists of singer and guitarist Bobby Burns, guitarist Joey Busciglio, drummer Grover Norton and bassist Darren Dyskord.

style

rockdetector.com assigned the music of Primer 55 to Rap Metal. Marcus Schleutermann from Rock Hard denied independence and originality on the second album, because in addition to Korn , Such a Surge and other previous ideas, Limp Bizkit can be heard in two tracks ( Loose and Set It Off ) . Stylistically, he saw the band's place "exactly at the intersection of New Metal and Hip-Hop ". According to Elmar Salmutter from Metal Hammer, the band play a crossover of metal and hip-hop on the album , which is monotonous, too commercial and predictable. According to Bobby Burns, (The) New Release was influenced by groups like Kiss , The Beatles , Peter Frampton and Black Sabbath . The band themselves don't want to be categorized, they just want to be a rock 'n' roll band.
