The Princesa Cypria was a cruise ship of the Cypriot Louis Cruise Line , which originally entered service in 1968 as the passenger ferry Prinsesse Margrethe .
period of service
The Prinsesse Margrethe was ordered in 1965 as one of DFDS ' 4 sister ships and built by Cantieri Navali del Torrino e Riuniti in Genoa . After it was launched on May 15, 1967, it was taken over by the shipping company on August 29, 1968. On September 21, 1968 the commissioning on the route Copenhagen - Oslo followed .
On January 31, 1971, the Prinsesse Margrethe ran aground, as a result of which the passengers had to change to another ferry. However, the damage to the ship was not very high, which is why the ship was put back into service in February after repairs. In December 1971, the Prinsesse Margrethe in Aalborg was rebuilt and equipped with additional cabins. Another renovation followed in November 1975. In October 1983 the Prinsesse Margrethe was finally taken out of service and offered for sale.
In August 1984, the ship was sold to the Fujian Province Shipping Co., based in Xiamen , and renamed Lu Jiang to continue to be used as a ferry. In 1988 another sale followed to the Gold Coast Line, which renamed the ship Asia Angel . Just a few months later, however, the ship was offered for sale again.
In December 1988 the Cypriot Louis Cruise Line bought the ship as a complement to the Princesa Marissa , which was the only ship of the shipping company until then. The Asia Angel 1989 was modernized and renamed Princesa Cypria in order to be used as a cruise ship from 1990. The Princesa Cypria was mainly used for shorter cruises in the Mediterranean. After an uneventful period of service, the ship was decommissioned in November 2001 and laid up in Eleusis . After more than three years of lay-in, the Princesa Cypria was sold to India for scrapping and renamed Princes . On April 6, 2005, the ship arrived in Alang, India , where it was scrapped.
