Princess lover! ( jap. プ リ ン セ ス ラ バ ー! , Purinsesu Rabā! ) is a Ren'ai adventure - eroge by the game developer Ricotta. It was first released for the PC as an adult game on June 27, 2008. The game was later adapted by various media such as light novels , manga , anime series and OVA .

Game mechanics

The game uses the usual Ren'ai-Adventures game mechanics: the game requires little interaction from the player, who spends most of the time reading the protagonist's written dialogue and inner thoughts at the bottom of the screen. At irregular intervals, the player finally arrives at decision points where he can choose from several options. According to his choice, he can influence the course of the action. Based on his decisions, the plot in the advanced game is divided into four different storylines, each of which goes into greater detail on one of the female protagonists and the story associated with her. In order to be able to play all four storylines, the player must consequently play through the game several times and steer the story in the desired direction through the correct selection of options.

development

Princess lover! is the first game from the newly formed game developer Ricotta. The small development team worked under the leadership of Shōta Onoue, who designed the scenario and had previously worked for Tactics on games such as Tenshi no Himegodo . The artistic direction was taken over by Kei Komori, who also designed the characters. He had previously worked on several dojin games , but later also worked on the second game of Ricotta Walkure Romance .

Publications

The game was first published on June 27, 2008 as a limited edition, which contained the game on a DVD, which was playable on the PC under Microsoft Windows . In addition to the game, the limited edition also included the maxi single Songs From Princess Lover! with in the pack.

On January 28, 2010, a version of the game for the PlayStation 2 was released , which is suitable for all age groups. For this purpose, certain action sections have been revised and expanded, and the graphics as a whole have been refreshed. Another new storyline follows the story of Ayano Kaneko, who previously only played a minor role. On November 8, 2013, the PC version was released again in a download version.

Adaptations

Light novels

The game was first adapted by the author Utsusemi ( 空 蝉 ) as a 18 and over light novel series. The drawings that illustrated the stories and adorned the cover were from Hyūma Yoshi ( 吉 飛 雄 馬 ). So far, two light novels from this series have been published, each of which was published by Kill Time Communication as normal and limited editions . The first special edition had an additional phone card, while the second was sold with a poster.

A third series began on June 17, 2009 with publication within Nijiken Dream Magazine , also published by Kill Time Communication. The light novel series is also written by Utsusemi and illustrated by Hyūma Yoshi. It is titled Princess Lover !: Sylvia van Hossen no Koiji 2 ( プ リ ン セ ス ラ バ ー! シ ル ヴ ィ ア = フ ァ ァ ン ・ ホ ッ セ ン の 恋 路 2 ).

Visual Fan Book

A 135-page Visual Fan Book was published on December 2, 2008 by Max. As is usual for this type of book, a large part of the content consisted of illustrations of the characters and graphics from the game. Between these there were additional explanations about the characters and the plot. There is also information about the making of the game, interviews with the developers, design sketches and as a bonus a short story called Little Princess! again.

Princess lover! was adapted by two independent manga series. The first manga series was written by the Japanese mangaka Naoha Yuiga ( 由 雅 な お は ) and since March 20, 2009 via the Media Factory Mobile! available for download by Media Factory for mobile phones. A second manga series called Princess Lover! was published within the magazine Comic Valkyrie , which like the light novels is published by Kill Time Communication. The manga was drawn by Midorigimura ( 緑 木 邑 ).

Anime

The game was filmed twice as an anime: in 2009 as a regular television series and in 2010 as a pornographic ( hentai ) OVA.

Television series

The newly founded anime studio GoHands produced the anime television series of the same name, Princess Lover! . The 13-episode series was directed by Hiromitsu Kanazawa and written by Makoto Nakamura.

OVA

Princess lover! is the debut work of the L. brand by Sakura Momoi, who was previously a producer at the hentai production companies Pink Pineapple and ANIK (Himajin). The animation studio was Public Enemies, with Manaka Toyota directing it. The character design comes from Kazuya Kuroda . The distribution took place through Marigold. The first episode was released on September 17, 2010 as a limited edition and the second on October 22, 2010, also limited. A regular issue of the first episode came out on October 29th. Both episodes deal only with Sylvia van Hossen.

Another OVA with Charlotte Hazelrink as the female lead was originally supposed to follow in November 2011, but was never released.
