Privat Banen Sønderjylland ApS (PBS) was a Danish railway company .

history

MY 1110 and MY 1122 in Horsens (summer 2000)

Privat Banen Sønderjylland was founded on April 5th, 1997. The company was the first "new" private railway in Denmark and was founded in response to the decision of the Danske Statsbaner to reduce freight traffic in Sønderjylland .

The company's depot was in Tønder . After long negotiations with DSB, the company procured six DSB MYs in a more or less operational condition for their tasks . Thanks to the collaboration with NVAG (Nordfriesische Verkehrsbetriebe AG), the first freight train from Tønder to Niebüll in Germany was driven with NVAG locomotives. On October 16, 1997, PBS drove the first train with its own locomotive, the MY 1122 .

The company took over the freight traffic on the Bramming – Tønder railway , the Bramming - Esbjerg section of the LunderskovEsbjerg railway and the remainder of the diagonal line between Bramming and Grindsted . The first train on the latter route ran on March 26, 1998 with tank cars for Danisco . From April 13, 1998 to 1999, Privatbanen Sønderjylland was also used to transport residual goods on the Himmerlandsbanerne to Løgstør . On this route, the lack of repairs by Banedanmark led to severe disabilities several times.

Under the leadership of Director Robin Roost, many obstacles with the authorities and the old railroad companies were overcome during the transition to a liberalized rail market in Denmark.

The company had also been promised freight traffic on the Tønder – Tinglev railway line to be repaired by Banedanmark and further on the Sønderborg – Tinglev railway line to Sønderborg as well as occasional services to Åbenrå and Haderslev . The repair of the route did not take place.

In 1999 PBS signed a contract with Norsk Hydro for the transport of 45,000 tonnes per year with aluminum trains from the port in Grenaa to Tønder. In the same year the company took over the transport of new Maersk containers from their container factory in Tinglev to the port in Aarhus .

PBS only had three operational locomotives in 1999: MY 1122 , MY 1124 and MY 1132 . In addition, MX 42 of Østbanen rented until the own MY 1110 was put into operation in September 1999.

In 2000, PBS announced in a press release that the company had won a major contract for transit traffic between Padborg and Malmö . However, PBS did not have enough locomotives to run the trains and abandoned these plans in September. In October the company already had negative equity of around 5 million crowns . A financing plan was tried with Tønder Bank to rescue the company, but it failed.

The company ceased operations on March 27, 2001 due to filing for bankruptcy. The new private railway company Traxion took over part of the assets and transportation services.
