The Bakunin family estate

The Trinity Church in Prjamukhino. It was built by Nikolai Alexandrowitsch Lwow on behalf of the Bakunin family and completed on October 18, 1836.

On April 8, 1779, the land became the property of the Bakunin family when Mikhail Vasilyevich Bakunin (1730-1803) bought the farm. His third son Alexander Mikhailovich Bakunin (1768–1854) took over the farm after his return from diplomatic service in France and Italy. 1806 Alexander Mikhailovich was appointed head of the nobles of the Tver region and settled permanently in Prjamukhino with his wife Varvara Alexandrowna Muravjowa (1792-1864).

In the first half of the 19th century, Prjamukhino became a cultural center of the Tver region and the European part of Russia. The eldest son of Alexander Mikhailovich Bakunin, the later revolutionary Mikhail Alexandrowitsch Bakunin, was part of the literary Stankewitsch circle and during his time in Russia Vasily Grigoryevich Belinsky, Nikolai Vladimirovich Stankevich and Timofei Nikolajewitsch Granowski visited the country estate.

In the fall of 1881, Lev Tolstoy visited the country estate and in 1897 Maxim Gorky, who collected material for his literary work. Parts of his book The Life of Klim Samgin are said to be based on Gorky's experiences in the area.

Today only a few buildings of the manor house and a large park on the Osuga River remain.
