Proenza Schouler is a New York fashion label.

history

Proenza Schouler was founded in 2002 by Lazaro Hernandez (* 1978) and Jack McCollough (* 1978) in New York . They both design the label's collections together. The name Proenza Schouler goes back to the maiden names of their mothers. Hernandez and McCollough met in 1999 at the Parsons School of Design . During her apprenticeship, Hernandez did an internship with Michael Kors , while McCollough was an intern with Marc Jacobs . The college graduation collection by Hernandez and McCollough was produced - a rarity in the fashion industry - and added to the range of the New York department store Barneys . Barneyswas also interested in a spring collection and other stores such as Linda Dresner and Jeffrey showed interest in another collection.

The editor-in-chief of American Vogue , Anna Wintour , discovered both designers and sponsored them. Through her, both received a grant from the Vogue Fashion Fund in 2004 with which they were able to realize their first joint collection. As a result, both designers became darlings of the press, who declared them geniuses. You are a regular at New York Fashion Week . In 2007, the Valentino Fashion Group joined Proenza Schouler and currently holds 45 percent of the label.

style

Proenza Schouler clothing is considered a "casual luxury". The shapes are minimalist and the clothes are often in dark, neutral colors - brown, gray, army green, bronze. While Proenza Schouler was originally known for the interpretation of bustiers and corsets, Hernandez and McCollough quickly designed coats, pencil skirts and dresses that emphasize the slim silhouette.

Her collections are sold by Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman , among others . In 2008, Proenza Schouler cooperated with Giuseppi Zanotti and launched an exclusive line of shoes.

Proenza Schouler now has a women's collection, bags, cosmetics, accessories such as glasses and sunglasses, as well as shoes. Celebrities who wear Proenza Schouler include Demi Moore , Chloë Sevigny and actress Kate Bosworth, who is friends with the designer duo . Maggie Gyllenhaal wore a Proenza Schouler dress to the 2007 Academy Awards and Amy Adams to the 2008 Academy Awards .

Award

For their graduation collection, Hernandez and McCollough were named "Designer of the Year" at the student show at Parson's College. Both were 2003 CFDA Perry Ellis Award winners for new talent. In 2007 they received the fashion Oscar in the category "Womenswear Designer of the Year 2007", which they shared with Oscar de la Renta .
