Bergdorf Goodman
Bergdorf Goodman is a luxury department store located in Midtown Manhattan , New York City at 754 Fifth Avenue at 58th Street. In addition to the main store for upscale women’s fashion and accessories, which has been in use since 1929, the company has also operated a branch for high-priced men’s fashion right across the street at 745 Fifth Avenue. Both houses are one block away from the south-east entrance to Central Park . The range also includes exclusive interior furnishings, bridal wear , shoes , jewelry , children's clothing and cosmetics in the upper price segment.
The department store is named after Herman Bergdorf, an Alsatian owner of a bespoke tailoring shop in Manhattan, and his colleague Edwin Goodman, a fashion designer . Bergdorf opened his business near Union Square in 1899 and hired Goodman in 1901, who Bergdorf eventually bought the business from in 1906. The company Bergdorf Goodman quickly made a name with exquisite fashion by American and French designers. In 1928, the department store moved to its current location and , together with his son Andrew, Goodman launched an exclusive fur fashion collection , their own perfumes and their own cosmetic salon and expanded their own fashion lines. In 1972 the department store was sold to a company that also included the luxury department store chain Neiman Marcus . Bergdorf Goodman is still owned by the Neiman Marcus Group . In 1990 men's fashion was outsourced to the house opposite.
In the main building there are shops-in-shops from high-priced fashion manufacturers such as Chanel , Yves Saint Laurent , Giorgio Armani , Gucci and Judith Leiber, as well as a fur salon, a hairdressing and cosmetic salon ( John Barrett Salon ) and several on nine floors Restaurants .
