Prospect is a jazz album by the Roofer formation around bassist Luca Sisera , which was recorded in October 2014 in the Hardstudios in Winterthur , produced in collaboration with Swiss radio SRF 2 Kultur and released on Leo Records in October 2015 .

Music of the album

In an interview (2016) Sisera commented on the role in his band: “I see myself as a rhythmist on bass. You can set strong rhythmic accents and also participate harmoniously in the action. The (harmonic) power of the bass is incredible. [...] You have extreme power on the bass. With a few changes - I'll use this instead of this tone - you can achieve a completely different effect, convey a completely different harmonious mood. Only the bass can do that! (Laughter) I'm really into rhythm, as you can hear on our album Prospect . Since count polyrhythms and polymetric clearly a major player. In this context, of course, I act very rhythmically, but also try to take the harmonic and melodic with me. "

reception

According to Henning Bolte, the music on the Prospect album is characterized by impressive dynamics through rapid turns; she is rich in original joy in playing and has got the hang of it.

Glenn Astarita awarded the album in All About Jazz four (out of five) stars and praised the accurate production in the sense that this ensemble possesses the ability to "gracefully conventional runs of modern jazz with avant-garde - improvisations " to connect. In this way, Luca Sisera's volume includes " post-bop game forms , freely formed sound surfaces, intricate unison choruses and roaring thematic runs, combined with melodic intervals and some hustle and bustle". In addition, each piece has “a distinctive plot, which underlines the entertaining qualities of this inspiring studio session”. One of the highlights of the album Astarita counts the piece Neptune's Chant ; it is "one of those nine differently fabricated works that show Sisera's creative musical mind". In fact, it is "a sensational program that only gets better with repeated listening."

Andrew Hill

When listening to the album, Dieter Ulrich felt reminded of the "great Blue Note records Andrew Hills " of the 1960s; In this context, Ulrich mentions the contribution of the bass player Richard Davis at the time , whose contribution to the emancipation of bass playing is still undervalued. In this respect, the band name Roofer (dt. Roofer ) expresses Sisera's creative will to “climb to new limits on the highest roofs.” The author emphasizes:

There is a game with forms and improvisational principles that could hardly be more diverse, while always maintaining a very relaxed, sometimes even refreshingly disordered approach. At the latest when we listen to it again, we also realize that a bass player thinks wisely about how his role could be formulated as diverse as possible without having to unnecessarily stage himself at the same time. "

Bruce Lee Gallanter ( Downtown Music Gallery ) named the album to the Recommended Album of 2016.
