The Przewalskikleiber ( Sitta przewalskii ) is a nuthatch native to China . It has long been considered a subspecies of the white-cheeked body ( S. leucopsis ), but differs significantly in morphology and song . In both S. przewalskii and S. leucopsis , a close relationship with the Carolinian body ( S. carolinensis ) has been considered. The Przewalski's nuthatch is a medium-sized nuthatch about 13 centimeters long. The top is dark to gray or slate blue, the vertex is dark blue to black.
The species is endemic to southeast Tibet and midwest China, including the eastern provinces of Qinghai , Gansu, and Sichuan . It lives in mountain forests, which are dominated by conifers such as spruce or fir . The species was first described in 1891 using a male from Haidong Prefecture . It was named after the Russian explorer Nikolai Prschewalski , who discovered the species in 1884.
