Pterigynandrum ( twisted moss ) is a genus of deciduous moss from the family Pterigynandraceae .
features
The plants form green to yellow-green, prostrate to drooping, smooth lawns. The trunks are irregularly branched, the branches slender and catkin-shaped leaves. Pseudoparaphyllia are thread-like and sparse or absent. The closely spaced, upright to one-sided leaves are elliptical and blunt to pointed, the leaf margins bent back below and sawn above, the short vein double or single. The lamina cells are elongated, diamond-shaped, usually thick-walled and covered with papillae on the underside. Leaf-wing cells are small and sub-square.
The sporophyte has an upright, cylindrical capsule with a double, short peristome and a cap-shaped kalyptra .

The genus is boreal-montane distributed in the northern hemisphere.
Of the genus that consists of two species worldwide, only Pterigynandrum filiforme occurs in Europe .
