Pterigynandraceae is a family of moss - order Hypnales .
features
The plants growing on rock or epiphytic are small to medium-sized, the trunks mostly creeping and irregular to feathery, the branches are often curved. The trunk cross-section does not have a central cord. Pseudoparaphyllia are partially present. The leaves are oval and pointed to long, the leaf margins almost entire to toothed, the leaf vein double or single and usually short. The leaf cells are linear to rhombic, the leaf wing cells are differentiated.
The species are diocesan . The sporophyte has an elongated, smooth seta and an upright or inclined, cylindrical capsule with a complete or reduced peristome .
Systematics
The Pterigynandraceae family (like Anomodontaceae ) was formerly part of the Thuidiaceae family and was only recently separated from it.
Genera
Worldwide there are 2 genera belonging to the family:
- Pterigynandrum with 2 species
- Trachyphyllum with seven species pantropisch spread
In Europe, the family is only represented by one type of Pterigynandrum filiforme .
