The Puente Pailas is a bridge over the Río Grande in the Santa Cruz Department in eastern Bolivia . Ruta 4 runs over the 1,400 meter long road bridge , the second longest in Bolivia . The two-lane Puente Pailas opened in January 2009 and is part of the central part of the “bi-oceanic corridor” that will connect Brazil and Chile via Bolivia.

Construction began on November 29, 2005 and was carried out by the Korean company Sambu Construction. The track support consists of a prestressed concrete - concrete box , which in incremental launching on the two abutments and 23 piers of reinforced concrete was built and advanced.

It is located 60 kilometers east of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra , between the rural town of Puerto Pailas in the west and Pailón in the east and only 80 meters above (south) the current railway bridge , over which, before the completion of the new bridge, road traffic in addition to rail traffic had to flow in both directions.

Until the opening of the 40 m longer Puente Banegas , which opened in 2017 and was also built over the Rio Grande as part of the expansion of Ruta 10 , the Puente Pailas was the longest bridge in Bolivia.
