Que you Luu

Que Du Luu (* 1973 in Cholon , South Vietnam ) is a German author . She writes novels , short stories and detective novels .

Life

Luu and her parents of Chinese descent fled the Vietnamese Chinatown Cholon in Ho Chi Minh City in 1977 . In 1978, her family first lived in a refugee camp in Thailand for one year . In 1979, the family found refuge as boat refugees in the Federal Republic of Germany and were taken into a refugee home in Unna . Her parents ran a Chinese restaurant in Herford . Luu grew up in Herford, then studied German and philosophy at Bielefeld University and graduated with a master's degree. Luu was influenced literarily by Franz Kafka , Wolfgang Koeppen and Siegfried Lenz , whom she read during her studies.

Que Du Luu lives in Bielefeld .

Awards

In 2007 she was awarded the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize for her first novel Totalschaden . In 2009 she received the sponsorship award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for young artists in the writing / poetry category as well as a work grant from the Robert Bosch Foundation . In 2010 she was awarded the Society for the Promotion of Westphalian Cultural Work . In 2015 she received the Hohenems Literature Prize for The Festival of the First Morning . Her youth novel In the Year of the Monkey was awarded the Young Talent Prize for German-language children's and youth literature from the German Academy for Children's and Youth Literature in 2016 and received the Kranichsteiner Youth Literature Scholarship in 2017 .
