The Queanbeyan River is a river in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales .
geography
It rises on the slopes of Bald Mountain in the Great Dividing Range , flows north through the town of Queanbeyan and flows north of the urban area into the Molonglo River .
The Googong Reservoir was built in 1979 to ensure drinking water supplies to Queanbeyan and Canberra. The associated water reservoir collects 124,500 million liters of water from an 873 km² catchment area . The dam and reservoir are three miles above Queanbeyan and are owned by the federal government. It is operated by ACTEW Corporation , the utility company for the Australian Capital Territory .
