The Quere cultural supply was a cultural center in the Upper Bavarian town of Landsberg am Lech , which opened in December 1995 and closed again in July 1997.

history

The real story of the Quere began back in 1986, when the scouts from Kaufering , a town about five kilometers north of Landsberg, organized the first Kauferinger Open Air near the swimming pool. These annual events from then on were later organized in the Kaufering recycling center . A team was soon formed to organize the open airs every year. From this group, which meanwhile consisted not only of scouts, the association for the promotion of art and youth culture in Kaufering eV was founded.

Around 1996 the idea of founding a permanent establishment in the Landsberg district took place where concerts and other cultural events could be held throughout the year. When looking for a suitable property, the former Saarburg barracks was chosen, which was located within the city of Landsberg.

At that time, the Open Air Association split into two camps, as not all members wanted to support this project. Eventually the pro-party founded its own association and so the Kulturversorgung Quere eV was born.

After some renovation work, the opening of the Quere was celebrated in December 1995. The approval not only from the Landsberg youth was enormous. In addition to regional groups, well-known bands from all over Germany such as Blackeyed Blonde , The Notwist , Cucumber Men , Calexico and Skaos performed .

Shortly after the opening, the Quer threatened to close again, because residents of the neighboring housing estate complained about the noise. Adequate soundproofing convinced the city council and mayor to give the way another chance.

In addition to concert events, the Quere offered a wide range of cultural offers. Short film evenings, art exhibitions by the Landsberg youth, record release evenings and the youth café on Sunday, which was intended for young people aged ten to fifteen, were successful .

One of the biggest events was the fifth anniversary of the Landsberg record label Hausmusik from October 25th to 27th, 1996. In addition to the label's own artists and bands, guests from the befriended labels Payola and Kollaps performed .

Financial problems and the dwindling membership forced the operating association to close the route again in July 1997. Shortly before the agreed end, two larger events took place: an open air on the Quere site and the Frank Zappa Cover Party on June 7, 1997. Landsberg amateur bands had rehearsed songs by Frank Zappa for this purpose . During the renovation phases, a formation made up of 13 musicians from Landsberg, which was founded especially for the cover party, performed Zappa pieces in an a cappella version.

After the Quere was closed, the building stood empty for a few years until it was demolished as part of a complete conversion of the former barracks into a residential area.
