Quettehou is a town and commune Déléguée in the same French community with 1,583 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Manche department in the region of Normandy .
geography
The place is located at the northeastern end of the Cotentin peninsula in the Val de Saire landscape .
history
The founding of Quettehou goes back to a settlement of the Vikings . Ketil, a Viking, decided to settle on the hill above the Bay of Morsalines . In the course of time, * Ketilhoh (Ketils Hill) or * Ketilholm (Ketils Holm) became the name Quettehou.
On July 12, the English King Edward III struck . who had also declared himself King of France in 1340, his eldest son Edward , known as "the black prince", in the church of Quettehou as a knight, after having landed with a large army in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue; then he devastated the whole area. That was practically the beginning of the Hundred Years War .
With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Quettehou and Morsalines were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Quettehou of the same name , in which the former municipalities have the status of a Commune déléguée. The administrative headquarters are in Quettehou. The former municipality of Quettehou belonged to the Arrondissement of Cherbourg and the Val-de-Saire .

Attractions
The Gothic church of Saint-Vigor was completed in the 13th century. The steeple was added in 1485–1498. Inside you can see a wooden Pietà from the 15th century, a stone statue of the Madonna from the 16th century and a wooden statue of St. Anne from the 17th century.
The festival hall of the Commune déléguée is the old granary from 1865. It has a particularly beautiful and large roof beam with a span of 18 m.
