Career
Club career
Steenbergen began her volleyball career in 2001 at AMVJ Amstelveen and played there, with the exception of a one-year interlude at VC Weert, until 2008. This was followed by her first international engagement at the French club Le Cannet Rocheville . The club finished third in the French championship in the 2008/09 season. After a year out as a volleyball professional, Steenbergen returned to the newly founded TVC Amstelveen in the Netherlands, where she immediately won the Dutch championship and the Dutch cup competition. Because of their success, Steenbergen was subsequently signed by the Azerbaijani club Baki Baku . There she reached third place in the championship and the final of the international Challenge Cup 2011/12 . Only the national competitor Lokomotiv Baku had to be beaten.
For the 2012/13 season she moved to the German champions Schweriner SC to play in the Champions League . Steenbergen succeeded Berit Kauffeldt , who left the club for Italy. She became German champions with Schweriner SC and won the DVV Cup in 2012/13 . In the Champions League season 2012/13 she reached the play-offs with Schweriner SC, which is the greatest international success in the club's recent history. During her engagement at Schweriner SC she developed into one of the leading players within the team.
After the season, Steenbergen decided not to renew her contract with the Mecklenburg women, like many teammates (including Denise Hanke and Anne Buijs ) and moved to the Czech Republic, to the local champions VK Prostějov . In the 2013/14 Champions League season , she met her ex-club from Schwerin in the preliminary round. The Czechs won both games against the Germans 3: 1, but lost their games against RC Cannes (0: 3 and 0: 3) Eczacıbaşı Istanbul (0: 3 and 1: 3) and were therefore eliminated as third in group D. the competition. At the end of the season, the club managed to win the Czech double consisting of cup and championship for the fourth time in a row. In the summer of 2014, Steenbergen moved again to Azerbaijan, this time to Lokomotiv Baku . In 2015/16 she played again in Prostějov and won the Czech double again.
National team
Steenbergen has been active for the Dutch national team since 2005 and has already played 186 international matches. At the European Championships in 2011 and 2013 , the Dutch women achieved seventh and ninth place respectively. In the European Volleyball League in 2012 , the Dutch women were fourth. For the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she could not qualify with her national team. In 2015 , Steenbergen became Vice European Champion in her own country. In 2016, she took third place with the national team at the World Grand Prix and fourth at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
