The Rio Guaporé is a right tributary of the Río Mamoré and by far its most important tributary. For long stretches it marks the border between Brazil and Bolivia . Its Bolivian name is Río Iténez .
River course
The river has its source as Guaporé in Mato Grosso, Brazil, about 70 km northeast of Pontes e Lacerda , from there it first runs south and west, from Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade north. After another 200 kilometers past the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park , it reaches Pimenteiras do Oeste , now it flows to the northwest and after a further ~ 700 km flows into the Rio Mamoré at Rodrigues Alves . The Rio Guaporé, with the double name Guaporé / Iténez, is the border river between the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Rondônia in the northeast and the Bolivian departments of Santa Cruz and Beni in the southwest.
