The Río Palora initially flows 3 km to the west to the mountain lake Laguna Verde . It then flows 10 km to the south before turning east on the rest of the flow. At river kilometer 67, the Río Collanes Grande meets the Río Palora when coming from the north. The most important tributary, the Río Sangay , flows into the Río Palora on the right at river kilometer 38. This then flows through the hill country at the foot of the Andes and finally flows 7.5 km northwest of Palora into the Río Pastaza. In the lower reaches of the Río Palora is an intertwined river and forms several river arms within a wide gravel bed.
