Róbert Angelusz

Róbert Angelusz (born January 27, 1939 in Budapest , † September 1, 2010 in Mexico City ) was a Hungarian sociologist and university professor .

biography

After attending elementary school in Gyula ( Békés ) that Gorky -School and the Ferenc Erkel - school in Gyula, he began in 1957 first a vocational training at the company Magyar Optikai Művek (MOM), a factory for the production of optical devices. He then studied between 1958 and 1962 at the Karl Marx University of Economics in Budapest, graduating in 1962 as a candidate .

From 1962 to 1969 he was a research assistant at the Faculty of Political Science , Political Economy and the Lajos Kossuth University of Debrecen , but began to deal increasingly with philosophy and sociology . In the following years, together with his wife, the anthropologist Erzsébet Angelusz, he wrote several articles such as A foglalkoztatottság optimális Foka (“The Employment of the Optimal Degree”, 1963), Valóság (“Reality”) and Ökonómia és elidegenedés (“Economy and Alienation ", 1964). He then worked for the Mass Communication Center of the Magyar Rádió és Televízió Vállalat (MRTV) radio and television company between 1969 and 1972 .

In 1972 he started working at the Institute for Sociology and Social Policy at Loránd Eötvös University (ELTE), where he was initially a lecturer . In 1981 he completed his habilitation and in 1996 he received a doctorate in sociology. In 2006 he was appointed professor at the Chair of Sociology. As a university lecturer, he dealt with social mobility, communication and political social research. In addition, he worked with Róbert Tardos on research into social networks .

Róbert Angelusz has received several awards and in 1993 was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences . In 2000 he was awarded the Karl Polanyi Prize and in 2008 the Leó Szilárd Prize.
