The Rönne is a 3rd order flowing water in Schleswig-Holstein all year round and a left tributary of the upper Alster . It is maintained and looked after by the Alster-Rönne water management association.

course

It flows in a north-westerly direction from the Itzstedter See near Itzstedt in the Segeberg district in Schleswig-Holstein and in this area mostly runs naturally. After a few kilometers it turns to the south and was straightened there . Towards the end it crosses under the Nahe road, which connects Wakendorf II , with the L 75 and shortly before its confluence in the Rönne lowland , it takes in the similarly long Bredenbek from the west-north-west. Then it flows a little before the Alsterbrücke of the federal highway 432 between Nahe and Naherfurth from the left into the upper, here still eastward flowing Alster .

Protected area

The still freely meandering upper course of the Rönne is designated as a bird sanctuary and belongs to the FFH area "Alster system to Itzstedter See and Nienwohlder Moor" (DE-2226-391). The water there is a near-natural stream that flows through wet meadows, reeds and swamps rich in sedge and rushes . Numerous water-loving breeding birds find nesting opportunities in the herbaceous vegetation. Occurrences of the common river mussel are worth protecting in the Rönne .
