Rüdiger Rabenstein

Rüdiger Rabenstein (born April 10, 1944 in Kiel ; † December 6, 2004 in Haltern am See ) was a German sports scientist and cycling enthusiast.

Rüdiger Rabenstein competed in bicycle races as an amateur and won the famous track race “The Silver Eagle” in Cologne in the 1970s . In Neuss , he completed his studies for teaching at elementary schools and graduated from the German Sport University in Cologne with a degree as a qualified sports teacher. He finished his studies at the sports university with a doctorate on "Cycling and Society". As a lecturer at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , Rabenstein held seminars and exhibitions on cycling and published several books and countless articles on cycling. In 2002 he organized the " International Cycling History Conference " in Münster. For more than 20 years he was responsible for road cycling and the district youth on the district board of North Westphalia. He was also a co-founder of the Rolinck Tour at that time, from which the International Sparkassen-Münsterland Tour for Juniors developed, and was involved in the organization of Groningen-Münster and the Giro stage, which ran the same in 2002.

Among other things, Rabenstein moderated the junior six-day race in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle , the Rhineland-Palatinate tour , the Thuringia tour and the Hesse tour for many years . As the sporting director of the Mercier Münster racing community and later of the Post SV Münster, Rabenstein passed on his experience to the youngsters, which he himself had under coaches such as the Olympic sixth Wilfried Trott , Olympic champion Udo Hempel , standing specialist Ralf Stambula , Dieter Münch , Bruno Zollfrank as well as Dieter Giebken had collected.

In memory of him, the North Westphalia cycling district has announced the Rüdiger-Rabenstein Prize, a sponsorship award for the best member campaign.
