The locomotives of the RŽD series ГT1 (German transcription GT1 ) of the Russian Railways (RŽD) are gas turbine locomotives with electrical power transmission , primarily for freight train service. They are intended for heavy freight train service on non-electrified sections, primarily in Siberia . So far, two vehicles have been built with which extensive tests have been carried out. The power is transmitted from a gas turbine , which is operated with liquefied natural gas , to which an alternating current generator is connected, the electricity produced is used rectified to feed the traction drive motors. A series of 40 vehicles has been ordered.

Characteristic

The ГT1 has an output of 8,300 kW, making the locomotive the most powerful gas turbine locomotive in the world.

The RŽD characterize the test model as follows: achievable speed of up to 100 km / h, fuel is liquefied natural gas , a trip without refueling is up to 750 km. In 2008 the gas turbine locomotive was exhibited at the InnoTrans in Berlin.

The revised ГТ1h.002 has a starting tractive effort of 980 kN, the tractive force in the continuous power regime (at 33 km / h) is 775 kN.

Manufacturing stages

The elaboration began in 2005 after the signing of the contract between the RŽD and the All-Russian Rolling Stock Design and Technology Research Institute. Specialists of the Kuznetsov company created the powerful gas turbine НК-361 ( NK-361 ) and the engine block of the gas turbine locomotive. In 2007 the first test locomotive was built, which was derived on the basis of the ВЛ15.008 . The gas turbine was built in Samara , the locomotive was assembled in the Voronezh repair shop . The new locomotive was given the designation ГT1-001. The locomotive has a service weight of 300 tons and a fuel supply of 17 tons.

On July 4, 2008, the ГT1-001 carried a freight train unit for the first time. The mass of the train was 3000 tons, and the inspection was carried out on the Kinel - Zhigulewskoe More section of the Kuibyshev Oblast railway . At that time it was planned that the first gas turbine locomotives would be used in Siberia , where most of the natural gas deposits are located. On October 12, 2009, the RŽD received a diploma in the Guinness Book of Records for building the most powerful gas turbine locomotive in the world, which is powered by liquefied natural gas .

On September 7, 2011, a freight train with a mass of 16,000 t and consisting of 170 wagons drove on the track ring of the VNIIZhT in Shcherbinka , which some institutions in Russia incorrectly interpreted as a world record.

In 2012, a modernization took place with the replacement of the diesel power unit for generating the auxiliary energy with a rechargeable battery. Since then, the locomotive has had the index h (hybrid).

From August 2013, the Lyudinowo diesel locomotive factory delivered a series version of the gas turbine locomotive , which was given the designation ГT1h-002 . One section of the locomotive is designed as an eight-axle locomotive in analogy to the ТЭМ7 diesel locomotive . The series version has a service weight of 368 t and a fuel supply of 20 t.
