The locomotives of the RŽD series 2ТЭ25А (German transcription 2TE25A ) of the Russian Railways (RŽD) are wide-gauge diesel locomotives with electrical power transmission primarily for freight train service. The locomotives were built by the Brjansk locomotive factory and represent a revision of the previously delivered 2ТЭ25К . Compared to this, the 2ТЭ25А differs through the three-phase drive technology with three-phase traction motors . This is shown by the letter A in the name. In operational service, the locomotives are nicknamed Vitjas .

In July 2006, the Bryansk locomotive factory delivered a new two-section freight train diesel locomotive with the designation 2TE25A . It was planned to purchase the locomotives in larger numbers in order to replace older series.

The design is analogous to the 2ТЭ25К series, which has the same performance but is equipped with direct current drive motors . Up-to-date components were chosen such as electronic fuel injection and diesel engines with charging , electrodynamic brakes with a nominal output of 2 x 2,400 kW and forced cooling of the braking resistor and screw compressors with oil filling.

Originally, the module power unit 21-26ДГ-01 ( 21-26DG-01 ), consisting of the 12-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine 12ЧН26 / 26 ( 12TschN26 / 26 ) with an output of 2500 kW and the traction generator АСТГ2 2800 / 400-1000 ( ASTG2 2800 / 400-1000 ) used. The diesel engine and generator are mounted on the same support frame using elastic dampers. The diesel engine has a piston diameter of 260 mm and a piston stroke of 260 mm. A 20-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine from MTU Friedrichshafen was used in the modified 2TE25AM series .

New three-axle pivotless bogies with two-stage spring suspension and radial suspension of the wheel pairs were used. The three-phase traction motors driving the designation АД917УХЛ1 ( AD917UXL1 ) and ДТА-350Т ( DTA-350T ) are in Tatzlager construction mounted in the bogie frame with independent lubrication.

The frequency and level of the voltage for the three-phase traction motors is regulated with the aid of a converter block, which consists of a rectifier and an inverter based on a bipolar transistor .

The traction forces of each bogie are transferred to the box of the section as with the 2ТЭ25K via automatic couplings. As a result, the friction mass of the locomotive can be better used on the pairs of wheels.

The driver's cab of the locomotive is a modular construction. Elements made of glass fiber reinforced plastic were used to design the front and roof parts . In the driver's cab there is an ergonomic control desk, seats for the driver and folding seats.

The control panel for the driver's brake valve with target braking, for the additional brake valve for the additional brake , for the KLUB-U train protection system and a display to show the operating status are located on the control panel . The locomotive can be used by one person.

The maximum speed of the locomotive is 120 km / h, the maximum starting tractive effort of the locomotive is 2 × 441 kN. At a speed of 20 km / h the pulling force is 390 kN per section. The on-board voltage is 110 V.

The locomotives that were built were first used in test operations on the Moskowskaja schelesnaja doroga in the Brjansk Oblast (Depot Brjansk-Lgowski ), and also on the Far East Railway in the Amur Oblast ( Tynda Depot ).

As a modification, there is a locomotive called 2ТЭ25АM , which is equipped with the German 20-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine 20V4000R43 produced by MTU Friedrichshafen. The power of the diesel engine is 2,500 kW, the engine works according to the Euro 3A emissions standard , it has a total displacement of 95 l and it consumes 9 kg / h of fuel when idling and 208 g / kWh at full load. The engine works in the speed range from 600 to 1800 rpm. So far, three locomotives of this type have been delivered.
