Ra'Shad James (born January 26, 1990 ) is an American basketball player .

career

James played basketball as a teenager at White Plains High School in Westchester County ( New York State ) and made a name for himself there as a player with exceptionally high jumping ability. As of 2008, James was on the basketball team of St. Thomas Aquinas College in the second NCAA division. In the 2009/10 season he was the team's best scorer with an average of 16.0 points per encounter and demonstrated not only his great athletic skills, but also his accuracy in throwing from distance (42 three-point throws scored in 26 games). In 2010 he moved to Iona College in the first NCAA division, was not allowed to play in the 2010/11 season due to the transfer regulations. In the 2011/12 season he was on the field for Iona in 29 games and averaged 3, 1 point per encounter. At the end of his university time, James went to Northwood University (later Keizer University) in Florida . In the Northwood shirt, he was the third best scorer in the second NAIA division in the 2012/13 season with an average of 23.0 points per game . In 32 games he hit 50 three-point throws and achieved averages of 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 basket assists and 1.5 ball wins per game. James, who was named “Player of the Year” of the 2012/13 season in the second NAIA division, played for Northwood for coach Rollie Massimino , his teammates also included the two Germans Thierno Agne  and Patrick Horstmann .

James switched to the professional field and was under contract with the Reno Bighorns in the NBA D-League from 2013 to 2015 . In the main round of the 2014/15 season he was Reno's best scorer with an average of 20.8 points per game and was seventh in the league in this statistical category.

In the 2015/16 season he was under contract with three teams in succession: First with Dongbu Promy in South Korea , from November 2015 with the Polish first division club AZS Koszalin and from February 2016 with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA D-League.

During the summer break of 2016, James accepted a contract offer from the Croatian club KK Cedevita Zagreb , for which he competed in several competitions, namely in the Croatian league, the cross-border Adriatic basketball league and the European club cup Eurocup . In the Croatian league he won the championship with Cedevita.

In the 2017/18 season he was a top performer at the Turkish first division club Yesilgiresun Belediye. He scored 15.1 points per game over the course of the game, but rose with the team from the league.

At the end of July 2018, James was signed by the German Bundesliga club Telekom Baskets Bonn . The contract, originally dated until the end of the season, was terminated in January 2019, even though he had been the Rhinelander's top scorer in 15 Bundesliga games with an average of 14.9 points during the previous season. A few days later he moved to Ratiopharm Ulm within the Bundesliga . At the end of February 2019, he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery. So it remained with five Bundesliga appearances for Ulm, in which he reached an average of 9.2 points.

At the end of July 2019, the French first division club Boulazac Basket Dordogne announced James' commitment, but the agreement ultimately did not come about because he did not pass the sports medical examination. In November 2019 he moved to Ormanspor Genclik Ankara in the Turkish first division.
