Rachel Laurin

Rachel Laurin (born August 11, 1961 in St. Benoît ) is a Canadian composer and organist .

Laurin was an organ student of Lucienne L'Heureux-Arel from 1978 to 1980 and then studied organ with Gaston Arel and Raymond Daveluy and piano with Raoul Sosa at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec (CMM) until 1986 . During her studies she was awarded a scholarship from the McAbbie Foundation (1985) and the Bourse d'excellence Wilfrid-Pelletier (1986). In 1986 she became organist at Saint Joseph's Oratory in Montreal, where she has a five-manual organ made by the German organ builder Rudolf von Beckerath . From 1988 she taught improvisation at the CMM, from 1989 she gave courses in organ improvisation at the summer schools for church music in Épinal.

Laurin Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Center and since 2006 House Composer of the Wayne Leupold Editions . From 2009 to 2010 she was a Distinguished Guest Artist at Yale University . She has also given courses at Mount Royal College in Calgary, the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Baylor University in Waco, Syracuse University , Kansas City University and St. Thomas University . She has recorded more than a dozen albums of organ music and composed over 100 works.
