Radio 1 is a private Swiss radio station based in Zurich, broadcast in the Zurich area via VHF , DAB + and in other parts of Switzerland via cable .

History and program

Radio 1 emerged on March 17, 2008 from the former station Radio Tropic , which the media entrepreneur Roger Schawinski bought. Jan Vontobel has been the station's editor-in-chief since mid-2015, replacing Oli Dischoe.

With its strict focus on an older audience, the broadcaster sees itself as a counterpoint to other private radio stations, which often target a younger audience. Target group are 30 to 60 year old listeners, songs from the last 30 years are played, but also current quality music. Numerous journalistic content rounds off the musical program: every morning an up-to-date column by renowned journalists. Radio 1 also has experts on topics such as cinema, health, business, law, fashion, cooking, lifestyle, music, fitness and literature in its program. On Sunday at 11 a.m., Roger Schawinski interviews one guest on the hour-long program Colon , which is repeated at 7 p.m.

From 2010 to 2015, Roger Schawinski discussed current issues with Weltwoche publisher Roger Köppel on Mondays in the format Roger versus Roger . In autumn 2015, the program was replaced by the discussion program "Roger versus Markus". Roger Schawinski's new discussion partner is Markus Somm . Publisher and editor-in-chief of the Basler Zeitung .

Transmission areas

Radio 1's transmission area extends over the cantons of Zurich , St. Gallen , Aargau , Schwyz , Schaffhausen and Glarus . Radio 1 can be received via VHF on 93.6 MHz in the Zurich region, on 101.8 MHz in the Zurich Oberland region , on 102.0 MHz in the Winterthur region and 96.4 MHz in the Glarus region. The station can also be heard over the Internet. Since November 30, 2012, Radio 1 can also be received digitally via DAB +. This particularly affects the greater Zurich and Winterthur region, including parts of the cantons of Thurgau, Schaffhausen and Aargau. In the next year, the digital supply will be gradually expanded.

Name dispute

The Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), the transmitter in Germany Radio One operates, triggered due to several similarities a name dispute with Radio 1 and called for the renaming of the Swiss radio station or that it will no longer be distributed via the Internet. In addition, the RBB called for the slogan for adults only to be changed . In November 2008, the two broadcasters agreed on a compromise and thus settled the name dispute. Radio 1 subsequently changed its website slightly and, in order to avoid confusion, included Zurich in its slogans.
