Raes Junction is a small settlement in the Clutha District of the Otago regionon the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The settlement is located about 50 km northeast of Gore and about 80 km west of Dunedin , at the meeting of the New Zealand State Highway 90 with the New Zealand State Highway 8 in a side valley of the Clutha River . Alexandra in the north is around 59 km away and the next larger town, Lawrence , is around 22 km south-east.
economy
Although the settlement itself is little more than a rural community, its role as a transport hub gives it local importance. The settlement is only inhabited by 5 families who work on the area's farms and run the Raes Junction Hotel .
