Rafael Sanus

Rafael Sanus Abad (born August 29, 1931 in Alcoi , Alicante Province , Spain , † May 13, 2010 in Valencia ) was a Catholic theologian , professor and auxiliary bishop in Valencia .

Life

Rafael Sanus graduated from the University of Valencia with a degree in civil law and then studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Diocesan Seminary in Valencia. He was ordained a priest on June 22, 1958 . He received his doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was rector of the Colegio Mayor de San Juan de Ribera in Burjassot, professor and rector of the diocesan seminary in Valencia and director of the Convictorio Sacerdotal de Valencia . Later he was appointed full professor in the Faculty of Theology and was Dean of the Real Colegio Seminario del Corpus Christi of the University of Valencia . Rafael Sanus was Canon of the Cathedral of Valencia and Vicar General of the Archdiocese.

1989 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Germaniciana and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in the archdiocese of Valencia . He was ordained bishop in the Cathedral of Valencia on March 12, 1989 by the Archbishop of Valencia, Miguel Roca Cabanellas ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Vicente Enrique y Tarancón , Old Archbishop of Madrid, and Antonio Vilaplana Molina , Bishop of León.

He was diocesan administrator after the accidental death of Archbishop Miguel Roca Cabanellas from January 2, 1992 to October 3, 1992.

His resignation was granted in 2000 by Pope John Paul II, after disagreements with the very conservative Archbishop of Valencia, Cardinal Agustín García-Gasco Vicente , could not be resolved beforehand.
