history
The savings and loan fund eGmuH Scharrel was founded on April 24, 1898 and entered in the register of cooperatives at the Friesoythe district court. Over 30 people took part in the founding meeting, 22 of whom signed the first statute of the newly founded savings and loan fund. The first board member was the farmer Wilhelm Meenens (director), the teacher Heinz Schraad (rendant) and the farmer Heinrich Beiter. At the general assembly on June 9, 1898, the members approved the purchase of a safe. The credit union then went into business.
The number of members rose to 62 by 1902. On December 31, 1925, 177 people were entered in the membership register. At its general assembly on March 31, 1952, the cooperative approved the conversion into a cooperative with limited liability. The following year, on May 4, 1953, the meeting decided to rename the company to Raiffeisenkasse Scharrel eGmbH. At the same time, the members agreed to the merger with the Agricultural Reference Cooperative eGmbH Scharrel as the transferring cooperative. The financial year 1967 the Raiffeisenkasse Scharrel closed with a balance sheet total of around 7 million DM , only to merge on December 31, 1971 with the savings and loan bank eGmbH Ramsloh under the new name Raiffeisenbank eG Scharrel. At the general meeting on June 27, 1997, a merger with Raiffeisenbank Elisabethfehn eG was approved. The total assets of Raiffeisenbank eG Scharrel rose to 270.5 million euros by 2018. The number of its members amounted to 4,235 people.
