Raimund Lissy (born March 5, 1966 in Vienna ) is an Austrian violinist and member of the Vienna Philharmonic .

Life

Lissy received his first violin lessons at the age of four. He then studied with Thomas Kakuska at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and with Alfred Staar. After temporary orchestral work in the Arena di Verona , he joined the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera in 1988 . In 1991 he became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic . In the same year he took over the position of section leader of the second violins; Since 1993 he has been the lead violinist in the secondary violin section of the Vienna Philharmonic and in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. Since 2013, Raimund Lissy has also been with the Vienna Court Music Bandinvolved. 2016 he joined a concert with the Vienna Philharmonic in the Basilica of San Paolo fuori le Mura in the Vatican together with Albena Danailova as a soloist in the double concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach on. As the second violinist in the "Ensemble Wien", Raimund Lissy devotes himself intensively to chamber music . Since 1994 he has given this string quartet formation five times a year in the Brahms Hall of the Wiener Musikverein in the subscription cycle "Freude an Musik" of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde . He has also given concerts with the "Ensemble Wien" in international concert halls, including in New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Tokyo and Paris, and at the Salzburg Festival and the Berlin Festival . With the "Ensemble Wien" Raimund Lissy performed with José Carreras , Plácido Domingo , Hila Fahima , Barbara Frittoli , Nancy Gustafson, Angelika Kirchschlager , Elisabeth Kulman , Helmuth Lohner , Jessye Norman , Marlis Petersen , Chen Reiss , Benjamin Schmid and Janis Vakarelis.

In 2008 he founded the "Lissy Quartet". With this piano quartet formation he gave a concert in the Glass Hall of the Wiener Musikverein. With the "Lissy Quartet" he played premieres of piano quartet works by Balduin Sulzer and Michael Wahlmüller. Lissy founded other chamber music formations such as the Ensemble VioLissymo and the Philharmonia Seconda Vienna. As a soloist, Lissy played violin concerts with orchestra and sonata evenings.

His 29 solo and chamber music album recordings include a 6-part CD series with works by Joseph Mayseder (at Gramola), works for violin by Reynaldo Hahn (Koch), works for violin by Charles Koechlin , Germaine Tailleferre and Francis Poulenc (VMS ) with Jan Latham-Koenig on the piano, as well as a violin concerto by Ignaz Pleyel (Ars). With the “Ensemble Wien” he can also be heard on CD recordings for VMS, Koch and Erato, and other recordings were made with the “Lissy Quartet” and the “IPG Ignaz Pleyel Quartet”.

Caring for the works of the violin virtuoso and composer Joseph Mayseder , who also took part in the first concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in 1842, is a special concern of Raimund Lissy. In addition to the performance of the works, this includes research into his compositions and his biography. Raimund Lissy is the producer of the documentary film "Joseph Mayseder" (C&W Film) which was broadcast on ORF III in 2019 and the author of the biography "Virtuosity and Viennese Charm - Joseph Mayseder" with a thematic catalog raisonné and a bibliography of printed music.
